If some one needs the care every time then the person has the option of 24 hour home care and live-in care therefore to make sure that caregiver will be there for the whole day and night. These both services are good alternatives to assisted living so therefore the clients are allowed to receive 24/7 care from caregivers so as they are allowed to stay in the comfort of their home. But at the same time its very important to choose the right one and the way to choose them. the company will tell about the differences between the two services to give you more clear information so that you can choose the best one for them.
Its the fact that live-in care and 24 hour home care can differ slightly by location. We have told below the summary including the advantages and disadvantages of both.
Live-in Care
In the live in care the carer provided is booked daily for a 24 hour period. One carer can be booked by the person for a period of maximum of four to five days per week and it depends on the location. Now for the remaining days, some other carer will be booked. In the full day of 24 hour period, a 4 hour break is very important and is given to the daytime caregiver. The person taking the service can decide if he wants coverage for these 4 hours or not. If the carer is in a live-in shift, then the person is allowed an 8 hour sleeping break and at the same time the sleeping bed should also be provided for the carer. The price of Live-in care is decided at a flat rate per day and at the same time if the 4 hour break coverage is requested then the price is billed as per the hourly rates.
Advantages:
On the best advantage of having live-in care is that the number of carers providing the service are reduced very significantly with most probably two scheduled carers for the whole week. This provides efficiency as well as the consistency in care and gives clients a chance to build relationships with their carers working there.
Disadvantages:
The main disadvantage of having live-in care is that there is a 4 hour break which is to be given to the carers at the daytime with optional coverage. But at the same time if person chose not to have coverage the carer giving the service at the day time is permitted to leave for 4 hours which either leaves the client alone or a family member will need to cover. At the same time if the person choose to have the coverage then more cost will be added to the person for that 4 hours. At the time of night, the carer is to be given a mandatory sleeping break so the client will not have direct supervision.
24 Hour Home Care
In the process of 24 hour care, two carers are given daily to the client and work 12 hours each. In some of the cases 3 x 8 hour visits are preferred in so as to make sure that carers are at their maximum level of alertness. While working the carer can work a maximum of 4 x 12 hour visits per week. At the time of other visits some other carers will be booked to cover. There is no time given to the carer during a 12 hour visit. But at the same time the person can allow the carer to sleep who is working at the time of night. 24 hour care is billed at an hourly rate. The price for the overnight work is billed at a flat rate if it is a sleeping visit and hourly rate if it is a non-sleeping visit.
Advantages:
The advantage of having 24 hour home care is that a carer will always be with a client at all times and has to be awaken even throughout the night so as to make sure the supervision of the client. Some people prefer this option as they believe caregivers are more refreshed and alert since there is at least one caregiver rotation in a 24 hour period.
Disadvantages:
One of the main disadvantage of this type is that the cost is higher because of the reason that price is always determined at the hourly rate. The cost of the live-in care is actually half the cost of 24 hour care therefore the 24 hour home care is the more costly alternative of the two. At the same time this type is less consistent in carers therefore this option may not be good for a client who needs familiarity.
